Cozy Fall Staples

fall staples

Hello October! The past weekend was the ideal Fall weekend for me! Mainly because it was still 75 degrees and sunny which is my ideal climate year round. Let me know where I should move to get that wish. I finally went through the process of putting away all of my Summer clothes though which made a lot more room in my closet, but unfortunately for my budget, it made a lot more room in my closet.

While I was going through some of the things I loved so much last year and will definitely be wearing again this year, I got to thinking about how I shop for Fall. I’m definitely a more structured clothing shopper than most people. I think about overall outfits and ways to wear the same things with each other over and over. Which means I shop pretty intentionally; limited impulse purchases in this house.

While I was thinking about what I need to add to my closet this Fall, I realized I should share with you guys how I think about this because it might be helpful if you feel like your closet has gotten a little chaotic or aren’t sure what you need to get this season.

So below I’m sharing my Fall staples, what I look for in each, and how I style them all for the most wear.

Oversized White Button Down

There may be no shirt I love more than an oversized white button down. It’s just such a classically simple style that more people should really embrace. I mean to be honest, if it’s good enough for Ina every day then why isn’t it good enough for the rest of us?

I love to pair a white button down with jeans or leggings with flats or booties for a casual look running errands. Or you can throw on a pair of boots for when it’s a little cooler. I also wear lots of white button downs for work and you can definitely get away with a slightly oversized version. Just pair it with skinny dress pants, heels, and a belt and it’s a pulled together look.

Dark Wash Denim

I don’t know about you, but Fall just feels like the perfect season for really dark wash denim. It looks so good with all the bold colors this season like red, orange, hunter green, and even lighter ones like cream. All Winter I live in black jeans, so I like to mix it up with dark blue denim in the Fall.

My favorite denim is still the Zero Gravity denim from Banana Republic. It just holds everything in the right place and the stretch is great without becoming baggy by the end of the day.

Loafers

I love a good pair of loafers. They are such a simple way to take any casual outfit to the next level. Loafers are also a great option for those days you can’t deal with heels at the office. Straight leg or skinny dress pants, a silk blouse, and loafers make a chic, no fuss work outfit.

One of the biggest trends this Fall will be leopard loafers. Grab a pair now while they’re still in stock because everyone will want a pair in the coming month. I really want this pair, but opting for a more budget friendly pair like these.

Crew Neck Sweater

Nothing says Fall to me like a good sweater. My favorite is a crew neck sweater because it’s easy to wear lots of ways. I especially love a chunky knit sweater with skinny jeans or leggings for an extra cozy look. For work, I like to wear a white button down underneath a crew neck sweater for a preppy, polished look. This will also help with the universal problem of freezing cold offices.

Leather Tote

I adore a good leather tote in camel with dark wash jeans and a white blouse. It feels a little preppy, but is so easy to throw on and look put together in no time. I’m a big fan of finding budget friendly faux-leather bags because I give mine a lot of wear and tear. I always go to Old Navy for good faux-leather totes. I also love Madewell’s totes. I just tie a scarf on to give a little added pop of color. It’s unexpected and great in case your neck gets cold or you need to rob a bank.

What are your Fall staples? Anyone else like to keep a capsule wardrobe in Fall? Mainly because you know you’ll wear your same favorite sweater non-stop.
