Friday Five

TGIF everyone! This week flew by for me which was great because I was ready to get to the weekend more than normal. You might have seen on Snapchat earlier this week that I’m headed out of town for the weekend. I’m in Houston for a long weekend to for a family celebration and to eat all the Shipley’s donuts and kolaches I can manage. If you’re new around here, I lived in Houston for several years in Montrose/the Museum District. I loved living in Houston and miss it a lot sometimes. And sometimes I just really miss Whataburger a lot.

Before heading out of town, I had a busy week. Wednesday night I went to Women Who Whiskey at Gamlin Whiskey House. If you haven’t been to Gamlin, it’s this cozy restaurant in the Central West End. I’ve been a huge fan since they opened and I talked a bit about their brunch here. Women Who Whiskey is a whiskey tasting event that happens the first Wednesday of every month. Your ticket includes 3 courses and whiskey pairings for each. This week was a St. Louis brand, Rebel Yell Bourbon. We got to try two of their new whiskies, ginger and root beer. I was a huge fan of the ginger whiskey over a honey infused ice cube. It was sweet with a little spice to it, so delicious. We had such a good time trying different drinks and of course the food at Gamlin is always delicious. I definitely recommend going to Women Who Whiskey if you love whiskey or if you are looking to try something new.

I should mention at this point that until a few months ago, I’d never even had whiskey. I don’t drink it that often, but have realized I actually enjoy whiskey cocktails. If you’re in St. Louis, my new favorite is the Not Your Mama’s Fruit Cocktail at Start Bar. I like things more on the sweet side, so if you’re new to it give something sweet and fruity a try.

Since I’ve been going to tons of happy hours and dinners lately, I’ve been working my way through the best cocktails in St. Louis. I thought I’d share my five favorite places to grab a drink in St. Louis.

Bar Les Freres – This is my neighborhood favorite for a fancy drink. I love all things French so this place is the perfect mix of cute and romantic French vibes.

Cielo at The Four Seasons – Cielo has a fantastic menu, but to be honest I’ve only ever been there for cocktails. If you’re looking for an amazing view with your drink, Cielo overlooks the Arch. They have a great patio and are always hosting fun events.

Katie’s Pizza and Pasta – I love the food at Katie’s and the drinks and basically every single thing about it. They have a great happy hour and I definitely recommend getting a cocktail pitcher to share with friends.

Bailey’s Chocolate Bar – I have a major love/hate relationship with Bailey’s. It’s a great bar for dessert and to get specialty cocktails. I am obsessed with their caramel brownies. I will say I’ve never met a hostess there who was remotely friendly. There’s always a long wait for a table, so use the NoWait app before you get there. That reduces the amount of time you actually have to talk to a hostess.

Start Bar – I have a major love for all things arcade games and Nintendo. Start Bar is pretty new and full of arcade games like Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, pinball, and Nintendo 64. They have boozy milkshakes, shaved ice, slushies, and tons of cocktails. If you haven’t been yet, get there ASAP.

Does anyone else in STL have a favorite bar? I hope everyone has a great weekend!

xo – Tracy
