Friday Five

August Books

Major TGIF happening today! It feels like this week has been busy and yet I’ve got nothing done. Ever have those days/weeks? I’ve been catching up on tons of errands and e-mails and little things I keep putting off. And now I’m to the point I can’t procrastinate. But getting everything out of the way during the week means I have more time this weekend for fun. Like maybe a bike ride to the park with Chuck so he can enjoy his favorite pastime; terrorizing kids on the playground. Who knew dogs could be hecklers?

I have been making a big effort on my goal to disconnect every night and read more. I’m trying to disconnect by 10PM every night and read for at least 15 minutes before bed. I’ve always been bad at forcing myself to leave my computer at night and since I don’t want to go blind anytime soon I probably need to lay off. I have been making tons of progress on my reading list this summer and have read like 10 books so far. I thought I’d share a few of my favorites and a few I’ve got up next on my list.

1. The Singles Game – I just finished reading this book and loved it! I’ve read a few of Lauren Weisberger’s books, in particular The Devil Wears Prada is one of my faves. This book is set in the world of professional tennis and the sudden fame that comes with success. I might be partial because I’ve always played tennis and still watch the movie Wimbledon all the time.

2. In Twenty Years – I just picked this one up and haven’t started it yet, but am super excited to read it. The book is about six friends who shared a house in college and twenty years later get back together after one of the group dies. So kind of a modern The Big Chill. Which also reminds me I should watch The Big Chill again this weekend.

3. The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo – I mean it’s Amy Schumer so I’m 100% reading this and going to laugh the whole time.

4. First Comes Love – Emily Giffin’s newest book is probably one of my favorites of the summer. I love her writing style and I think her books are so good because the main character is always kind of the one doing something wrong. Her books never depict anyone as perfect and it just works. This book is about two sisters whose lives are very different from each other and from what they expected. They have to come to terms with how things have turned out in their lives and deal with things in their past they haven’t until now.

5. Maybe In Another Life – I just started this book a couple of days ago and am already so into it. The book is about the choice Hannah makes one night, whether to leave a bar with her best friend or her ex-boyfriend. From there, the book is split into alternating chapters with the alternate universes. Either decision leads to vastly different outcomes in Hannah’s life. This book’s all about fate and love and how much of what happens is a choice or destined. It’s pretty fast paced and I’m dying to know what happens in both universes.

If you have a good book recommendation, send it my way! I’m always looking for books to add to my ever-growing reading list.
