Pink Plaid Cape

On Friday I dedicated my usual Friday 15 to declare my love of capes and ponchos. So it shouldn’t be a total shock that today’s outfit post is all about my current favorite cape.

I ordered this cape from River Island a while back, totally unsure if I could pull off this look. I kind of put off trying to wear it because I was just so paranoid I was going to look like Henry Cavill in his Superman cape. Don’t get me wrong, that man is fine and has some serious broad shoulders, but not a look I’m personally going for.

I finally gave this baby a whirl around Christmas and New Year’s and was pleasantly surprised to find how warm I was everywhere I went. It’s so much better than a coat because it’s like getting to wear a blanket everywhere and no one is judging you. OK, some people who aren’t into trends or fashion are judging you, but they certainly aren’t in that kind of position now are they?

While I was traveling to San Francisco earlier this month, I finally realized the magic that is wearing a cape for plane travel. Why had this not been in my life 5 years ago when I started traveling non-stop for work?? It made my red eye in coach so much more tolerable because I was snuggled in my cape and got to sleep in my window seat.

I love this particular cape because it comes with a detachable faux fur collar, which I took off for my trip to the west coast. It just isn’t always necessary to have a fur collar.

Some sad news is that my exact cape is sold out, I know so sad. That happens at River Island. Their stuff is just so amazing and the price is always perfect, so nothing sticks around for long.

Luckily, I found this almost exact match at Nordstrom for you, minus the fur collar. The best part is that it’s under $40! Monday is suddenly so much better.

One of my favorite ways to make a cape work ready is to add a belt. I work in a pretty conservative environment, but it’s also like 15 degrees in the office most days. So I just throw any type of belt with my cape, both this or this option works perfectly and is super stylish.

I do this same thing with my blanket scarves to turn them into capes. I rounded up some great blanket scarf options here and here.

And this is still my favorite crossbody bag ever. I can’t say enough good things about it. I mean I already have here and here, and here.

Any tips on where to find capes? Nordstrom, Asos, and River Island have been my go-tos for less than $100 capes.
