If you’ve been following along on Instagram or Snapchat you know I was in Savannah for a few days last month. My parents have been vacationing on Hilton Head Island for like 30 years because it’s so quiet, relaxing, and gorgeous. I hadn’t been on vacation with them in years, like since college, hey adulthood, so this year I had some extra time off and it worked with my schedule. We’ve always stayed at least a day in Savannah, but this year we got almost 3 days there to eat and shop and explore.
We mainly spent the first day walking around and shopping. We started the day with breakfast and coffee at Cafe M which was absolutely delicious. And while we were eating a sweet older couple came in and the husband, with his dslr in tow, was taking pictures of everything including his wife while she sipped her tea. It was seriously adorable. My fellow blogger girls know that’s basically blogger bf/husband goals; not just being a good sport but actually just wanting to capture a sweet moment on their trip.
After my daily intake of caffeine to be a normal human we set out to do some shopping. Broughton Street is where all the really good shopping is at. Savannah happens to have one of the cutest Kate Spade shops. There’s also a Lilly Pulitzer shop too that’s one of the most well-stocked I’ve seen in terms of variety of prints. One of my favorite shops is The Paris Market. You know my love of all things Paris and France so it’s hard for me to resist anything remotely Parisian. I have daily fantasies of quitting it all and moving to Paris. The Paris Market is a big store with tons of houseware and accessory products. They also have a little coffee bar and sweets.
After a few hours of shopping and wandering the streets and a thousand squares, we headed to lunch at The Olde Pink House. It’s seriously the most southern thing you can imagine. As you can see in the pictures above, it is a giant pink house. The interior is very sophisticated southern and full of antiques. Don’t worry it’s actually a very casual restaurant; you can see I went in my t-shirt dress and sneakers and was walking around with my big dslr looking like a tourist. After all the walking I needed a cheeseburger and fries; I mean I earned it. We also started with fried green tomatoes because it’s the south. They have a pretty big menu with lots of options from cheeseburgers to seafood to salads. The exterior is worth a few snaps as well; the plants are amazing and really pop against the pink of the building.
After lunch was lots more walking and then back to the hotel terrace bar for a cocktail before we headed to dinner at Paula Deen’s The Lady and Sons. I had never been before but everyone had really talked it up to me before going. The fried chicken buffet was supposed to be mind blowing. It honestly wasn’t a super thrilling experience for me. We had made a reservation because it’s always packed. But you basically make a reservation to be able to wait for a table. We had to wait 20-30 minutes for a table once we got there. I opted for this famous fried chicken buffet and the food was good but nothing mind blowing. The buffet is also next to the hostess stand, so if you are at all a little insecure about people watching you get food from a buffet, this is not the place to go. The crowd is a big group of starers. I’m sure we just had a weird experience when we were there because my whole family raved about how good it was the past few years.
After dinner we walked back to our hotel, The Hyatt Regency, which is on the riverfront. First I want to say I’m a Starwood and Hyatt loyal kind of girl. Hyatt’s been renovating their Regency hotels the past few years and the Savannah Riverfront has just recently undergone a facelift. It has always been a really nice hotel and now looks a little refreshed and the rooms are definitely more modern. They’ve also added a terrace bar overlooking River Street. It’s pretty moderately priced for the level and location. Hyatt also has an Andaz property just a few blocks away, actually a block from The Lady and Sons. Andaz properties are my absolute favorite hotels to stay at if given the opportunity. They are pricey, but well worth it for what you get. Anyway back to River Street. It’s really fun and full of bars, restaurants, and shops. It’s great during the day and at night is definitely a touristy bar crawl. The Savannah Candy Kitchen is open late which was really my motivation for heading down there. I needed some superman ice cream after dinner.
