One of the things I find hardest to do is set a consistent bedtime routine. I find that no two nights are the same for me and it’s starting to feel a little chaotic. Some nights I stay late at work, which means I get home late, eat dinner late, and work on blog posts until way too late. For about 6 months last year, I got in the routine of reading every night for 20 minutes before bed. I didn’t make it work every night, but I found myself more relaxed and finally getting around to reading some books I had stacked for ages.
Lately I’ve found myself spending every night on my phone before I go to sleep. I think most of us fall into this bad habit pretty often. It’s hard not to scroll through social media, read news articles, or take care of work but I could do it all night and what I really need is to go to sleep! Your bedtime routine should be a chance to relax and unwind, to get away from the stress of work, family, friends, etc.
This month I’m making an effort to get back to reading every night before bed for 20 minutes. I love reading and I just feel like lately I haven’t had as much time as I want to do it. Not only do I want to read more, but I really want to get into the habit of doing anything besides looking at my phone before I go to sleep. If reading isn’t your go-to hobby, try something else like flipping through your favorite magazine or doing a face mask. Take away the stress of tomorrow by writing down your to do list for the day so you can start fresh. It’s also a good chance to connect with your partner; use this time to talk about the high and the low of your day.
If you’ve been feeling the need for a different bedtime routine, try something more relaxing this month. What change are you going to make this month? Do you want to read more or spend quality time with your person before ending the day? Leave your bedtime routine in the comments below! As always, share any of your changes this year with #AYearInChic on social media!
